Celebrate National Taco Day in Warren

October 4th is National Taco Day! And honestly, who doesn’t love tacos? Since 2009, the national holiday commemorating them has been celebrated every October; but every Tuesday offers all the opportunity to celebrate the popular dish, observed as early as the 16th century.

In the city of Warren, restaurants abound with below-$2 weekly specials. While many will default to fast food chains like Taco Bell, Del Taco, Chipotle, among others (and there’s nothing wrong with that!), our independent restaurants offer unique choices on daily menus, as well as Tuesday specials.

For example, Mr Miguels on Ryan Road offers on its regular menu,  “Island Tacos,” with coleslaw and honey-pepper sauce.

But I digress … every Tuesday, Mr. Miguels offers $1.50 (chicken or beef) and $2.50 (fish or shrimp) tacos.

Mexico City on Van Dyke (south of 14 Mile) is a personal favorite of some TV Warren crew members for their lunch specials. Their Tuesdays offer up 99¢ chicken or beef tacos.

South of Mexico City on Van Dyke behind National Coney Island, Jimmy’s Tavern features 99¢ chicken or beef options as well.

Hot Rock Sports Bar offers beef only, with some assembly of lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, etc., required.

So whether you celebrate your love of tacos on one day this year (the 4th of October) or every Tuesday, consider patronizing our local restaurants and discover the varieties of this deceptively simple Mexican import.
