The De La Salle Pilots

Football is back and with a long pause due to COVID-19, the 2020 Football season has resumed. The De La Salle Pilots are on their way to Ford Field for the Division 2 State Title Championship game!

Let’s take a look at how they got there:

On October 30th, the Pilots took a quick drive over to Roseville High to face off against the Panthers in the first round of the Districts. De La Salle would win this game quite easily with a final score of 58-24.

Next stop, Lakeview High in St. Clair Shores, November 6th, for the District Semi-finals, and the Pilots defeat the Huskies 35-6.

On November 13th, the team travels northeast up I-94 to Port Huron High for the District Championships. They face off against the Big Reds and take care of business, shutting them out with a final score of 36-0.

Then COVID-19 comes into play and a pause is put on the season, leaving everyone questioning if the season would be cancelled. Almost two months later, the 2020 Football season resumes and on January 9th, De La Salle Pilots face off against Warren Mott Marauders. Before the pause, Marauders were playing some of the best football I’ve seen, winning a district championship. Would either team have any rust after the two-month break? The Pilots picked up right where they left off, defeating the Marauders 45-3 in the regional round.

Now one week later on January 16th, De La Salle finally gets a home game against the Oak Park Knights, and it’s on their brand-new field where they have never hosted a game before! This game was a nail bitter, back and forth, eventually going into overtime, where the Pilots would create a turnover in the first possession for the Knights. Then #30 Brett Stanley would take the handoff and punch his way into the endzone for the game-winning touchdown with a final score of 26-0!

This Friday, January 22 at 1:00 p.m., the Pilots will play in the Division 2 State Championship game against Muskegon Mona Shores. TV Warren will provide you with highlights. Stay tuned on Facebook for the latest SportsLine Update hosted by Paul Smith!
