It’s 2018. Happy New Year to all! With a new year there’s new happenings in Warren. Here’s what’s going on in Warren for this upcoming year.
Let’s go Krogering. The Kroger Company is investing millions of dollars in Macomb County with several new grocery stores planned. One of those Krogers will be right here in Warren. Officials anticipate Kroger will demolish a closed Kmart store and begin construction on their new grocery facility late in 2018. The old Kmart store is at Schoenherr Road and 13 Mile in Warren.
A new Meijer is under construction on Schoenherr at 10 Mile in Warren. Completion is expected later this year.
Another big topic for 2018 is the I-696 shutdown. Motorists may not be looking forward this, but the sooner it starts, the faster it’s over. The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to close the entire 10-mile span of westbound Interstate 696 from I-94 to I-75 in April for a seven-month makeover. MDOT’s $10 million project includes replacing concrete, conducting bridge maintenance and repairing median barrier walls. Eastbound lanes of I-696 will remain open. When it’s time for work on the eastbound side, traffic will be shifted onto a portion of westbound I-696. There is a silver lining here: Drivers who choose to travel on surface streets may discover new restaurants and shops they didn’t previously know about.
Lastly, the City of Warren is having their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony. This event honors and remembers Pastor King, his triumphs and the contributions he made to the world. The Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony will be held at Noon on Monday, January 15th in the City Hall atrium, One City Square, Warren, Michigan 48093.
Here’s to a bright 2018!
