Looking for a fun, family event this weekend? The Ukrainian Sunflower Picnic is in full bloom on Saturday and Sunday! Come and enjoy Ukrainian and American food, music, ethnic dancers, a children’s choir, vendors, and raffles.
The Ukrainian Sunflower Picnic is held at the St. Josaphat Banquet Centre, 26440 Ryan Rd., south of Eleven Mile, in Warren. The event runs from noon to 7 p.m. on both days.
Traditionally, students from the Immaculate Conception grade school plant sunflower seeds around the perimeter at St. Josaphat so that the flowers bloom for festivals. The sunflower, which is the national flower in Ukraine, is now viewed as a symbol of strength and resistance amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
