Betty Jane’s Bar & Grill

Betty Jane’s Bar and Grill, at 13791 E. 13 Mile Road (east of Schoenherr Road) in Warren, is serving up more than just food and spirits. It’s an example of the growing number of women at the helm of local businesses. The bar is owned by Jamie Hummel, her sister Brittney, and longtime friend Nicole Ajini. Together, they created a comfortable, low-key bar reminiscent of the 80’s sitcom Cheers. Their motto is “come as a stranger, leave as a friend.”

“What makes Betty Jane’s unique is that it’s run by women,” said co-owner Jamie Hummel. “We have a great team of employees. We are like a family.”

Betty Jane’s offers a variety of bar favorites including sandwiches, sweet n’ spicy wings, and build-a-burger. They serve craft beers, wine, and specialty drinks. “We handpicked all our menu options and even created some drinks,” said co-owner Nicole Ajini. “We personally love all our items.”

The bar is named after Betty Jane Hummel – mother of Brittney and Jamie. “She was one of the strongest, most independent women I’ve ever met in my life,” said Brittney Hummel. “She raised all of us to be as equally strong and independent as she was. She deserved her name in lights. It’s a tribute to her.”

The women put their blood, sweat, and tears into renovating the bar. They cleaned and painted and added dartboards, pool tables, and seven televisions.

“We created a nice, cozy atmosphere in a great location,” said Jamie Hummel. “We chose Warren because it’s close to home for all of us, and we love the neighborhood.” Betty Jane’s Bar & Grill is open Monday – Saturday 11 a.m. – 2 a.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. – 12 a.m. For more details go to bettyjanesbarandgrill.com or call 586-415-8889.
