Interstate 696 will return to normal traffic operations January 7th. Here is a timeline of planned events:
On Wednesday, January 2nd, two eastbound lanes will be opened. Northbound and southbound ramps to I-696 from I-75 will be closed, and Groesbeck, Dequindre and Mound exits will intermittently close.
On Thursday, January 3rd, crews will begin opening westbound I-696. Pavement markings will be replaced and traffic control devices will be removed. During this time, eastbound and westbound I-94 will have lane closures.
By January 7th, all on and off ramps to 696 will be reopened, and eastbound and westbound 696 will return to normal traffic operations.
This project started in April, and MDOT says while construction is not yet complete, crews will have to stop work before any major winter weather. Work will begin again in the spring.
