It’s now the third week in January, and the boys’ and girls’ basketball season are starting to heat up with conference play last week showing who will stay at the top, middle, and the bottom of their division.
One team is currently at the top of their division right now and that would be head coach Wydell Henry and the Lincoln Abes! They are currently 4-0 in their division and 7-3 on the season. They just defeated the Port Huron Huskies to stay atop the Silver division tied in first place. Coach Henry has his boys play some good basketball and we will have those highlights for you on our next episode of SportsLine.
Another team that is tied for first place is the Fitzgerald Spartans and head coach Venias Jordan. They are tied for first place with South Lake and they will be facing them Thursday, January 20 at South Lake to see who will take the top spot in the gold division.
The De La Salle Pilots were at the top of the Catholic League but after falling to Orchard Lake St. Mary’s in double overtime (64-66) and Detroit Catholic Central (50-60) they have fallen into last place with an overall record of 8-2 and conference record 1-2. If they want to get to the Breslin Center this year, The Catholic League needs to take care of business in their own division first.
That’s all for the boys right now, so let’s move over to the girl’s side. We have two teams that are both over .500 right now at that 5-4 and the first team is the Cousino Patriots in the blue division sitting 1.5 games back of the Lakeview Huskies for the top spot. Our other team is the Center Line Panthers in the silver division also sitting 1.5 games back of the first place Lamphere Rams.
In Boy’s bowling, we have the Warren Woods Tower Titans in first place in the gold division with a 4-0 record. Also, the Warren Woods Tower Titans are first place in boys swimming right now in the gold division starting off the season 5-1-1
Right now in Wrestling, the Warren Mott Marauders are currently in first place in the white division. As of their last meet, they defeated Utica/ Stevenson 45-29 and their next meet will take place on January 25 at Warren Mott
