This Past Week in Sports Week of November 8th

It is now the third week of November and we’re in the semi-finals of football playoffs. Also coming up soon are winter sports in Warren.

Once again, the De La Salle Pilots continued their winning streak by defeating the Roseville Panthers 45-14. This game started off swiftly with #34 Rhett Roeser taking the opening kick-off for a touchdown, putting the Pilots up 7-0! After a strip sack from #17 Jamari Allen and #33 Will Beesley with the recovery on Roseville’s first possession, the Pilots were in position for a 4th down throw by #12 Brady Drogosh to #25 Triston Nicholes for the score, putting the Pilots up 14-0.

Second-quarter now – Pilots have the ball in their own territory. After great play by the offensive line, Drogosh takes the snap and finds a hole on the right side of the line. He finds an opening and takes this one to the house for 80 yards! Pilots score yet again and now have a three-touchdown advantage early in the second quarter. Later in the second quarter, Brady Drogosh shows why he’s the Pilots’ starting QB. He gets pressure in his face, avoids the sack rolls outright, and throws a bomb to #22 Jack Yanachick who makes a great catch that nearly hits the ground to put the Pilots in a great position for this next play. Goal-line situation wild cat formation, Rhett Roeser with the direct snap takes it in from the five-yard line for another Pilots score 28-0! Right before the half, the Pilots get a last-second field goal to put them up 31-0.

Start of the second half now – Panthers are starting to finally move the ball through the air but this would be against the Pilots’ second and third-stringers. The Panthers are in the Pilots’ territory trying to put some points on the board until the QB for Roseville, #3 Jeremiah Bell, throws a ball out to the flat, and Pilots #11 Griffin Phillips comes underneath to pick this ball off and take it to the house! That would be the start of the running clock for the Pilots. (In high school football if you’re leading by 35 points anytime in the second half, the clock continues to roll).

Pilots take a commanding lead of 38-0 in the 3rd quarter. Roseville is now with the ball trying to do anything to make this a game. With the clock now working against them, Panthers’ Jeremiah Bell tries to hand the ball off to #1 Riley Null, but there’s a problem on the exchange. The ball gets loose and Pilots’ Jamari Allen scoops and scores for another touchdown, as De la Salle goes up 45-0. After a couple of late touchdowns for Roseville, the Pilots end up on top, getting one step closer to the ultimate goal of the championship game. De La Salle ends up winning this game 45-14.

The Pilots improve to 11-0 on the season and now move on to the next round of MHSAA High School Football Playoffs, the semi-finals, taking place this Saturday, November 20th vs Livonia Franklin, 1:00 p.m, on a neutral site at Hazel Park.
