This Past Week in Sports Week of October 25

It is now the first week of November and we’re in the district finals for both football and soccer. We have only one team left in the MHSAA High School Football Playoffs and we’ll find out who is in the semi-finals in the Regional #4 Soccer Playoffs. Also, volleyball playoffs start this week on November 1st.

Once again, the De La Salle Pilots continued their winning streak by defeating Detroit U-D Jesuit for the 3rd time this season with a score of 44-0. The Pilots improve to 9-0 on the season and now move onto the next round of MHSAA High School Football Playoffs District Championship this Friday, November 5th vs Grosse Pointe South at Fitzgerald High School at 7:00 p.m. We’ll have these highlights for you on our next SportsLine Update on TV Warren’s Facebook & Vimeo pages.

The Fitzgerald Spartans made it to MHSAA High School Football Playoffs but had a tough draw as they faced off against Detroit Martin Luther King who had over 20 more playoff points than the Spartans. Playoff points are the new system in setting up the playoffs. To learn more about the High School Football Playoffs Points and how they work, head here. Back to last Friday night, the Spartans headed down to Detroit to face MLK on this cold and rainy night. The Spartans didn’t have a chance as they fell to MLK 55-12, under head coach JuWan Shakspear in his first year as head coach. The Spartans had a great season going 8-2 and the West brothers put up a season that neither I nor the City of Warren will ever forget.

The De La Salle Pilots Soccer team won the District Championship against Fraser 2-0 on October 21st, and that leads us to this past Tuesday, the 26th of October game against the #1 ranked team, the Troy Warriors. The Pilots drove north to Stoney Creek High School only to fall to the Warriors 3-1. They had a tie game going into the final eight minutes of the game, but Troy scored two goals within two minutes and that was just too much for the Pilots to overcome. Impressive season by De La Salle winning another District Champion. It would not surprise me if head coach Thaier Mukhtar and the Pilots are back in this game this time next year.
